BARGAIN GALACTICA

Picked up a couple of bargain basement rebooted Battlestar Galactica sampler DVD's yesterday for a pound a piece . Not for everyone, but it'll be a bit of a reminder for me.

  1. I enjoyed the main series a lot, but couldn't get into the spin offs of which Razor is one.

    1. I'm with you on that , Kev. I did watch the first season right to the end , but I lost interest after that. I've haven't seen Razer, so I wonder if my opinion will change.

    2. I thought Razor was great, with the Battlestar Pegasus looking more like the original series ship. It also offers the best view of the main Cylon attack on the Colonial fleet.

    3. Thanks for your balancing view, Lewis. I'll be giving it a watch later. I look forward to seeing the updated Pegasus.

  2. SPOILERS
I'll leave out discussing the ending to the reimagined series. It wrapped things up fairly neatly, but I felt it was a bit anti climatic after such a long journey.
The final scene featured our Earth in the near future, with robotic servants promising the rise of another machine rebellion. Given the advances of our current technology of humanoid robots being coupled with AI reasoning, that ending is more prescient today than when it was filmed 20 years ago.

The real disappointment for me was the prequel spin-off Caprica. The characters were all unappealing, with even the Adama hero going over the moral event horizon -then the show got cancelled.
There was an intriguing end scene of one of the very nasty humans in a church, preaching to a congregation of Toaster Cylons. It hinted at an explaination as to why the Cylons believed in one God, rather than the Pantheistic Humans, but it was all too little too late.

You can safely leave this off your viewing list.

Blood and Chrome was a bunch of webisodes strung together to form an ok, but needless prequel, set during the First Cylon War.
It centres around a young Adama, back in the days when he flew a Viper with HUSKER painted on the cockpit.
It features classic styled chromed Cylon Centurions and Viper fighters, but the story gets bogged down in an abandoned hotel on an ice planet.
If you're keen to see more Classic BSG tech, you might enjoy this from the bargain bin, but it really is only for completists ( like me)

Watch the main Reimagined BSG, then go on to Ron Moore's more realistic alternate version of the 1960s Space Race "For All Mankind"...
