AQUACAR AT THE BEACH

These are some photos I took during the early days of the blog, back in 2012, and have subsequently appeared several times on here since them.

I took them by the Pier on Southport beach ,  getting some very odd looks from passers by.

A toy Aquacar painted red did appear briefly in Thunderbirds, a fleeting glimpse can be seen in the episode , The Mighty Atom.

Our very own Kevin Davis did do some photos of his own red Aquacar some time back, in a suitable Thunderbirdish background.

Come on down, Kev, let's see 'em again!

By the power of email, Kevin has answered the call, and, as requested here's a trio of photos of his red Aquacar.

    1. Oops! sorry about that, Woodsy, didn't know. I came across these old photos while looking through my files on the Southport Airshow which takes place over the beach, and felt the spirit of the seaside.:)

    1. Ha,ha! Cheers Mish. Taking model shots in daylight usually works out fine. I think Derek Meddings once said, there's only one guy who gets the lighting perfect everytime! ;)

  4. When I was a kid I lived on a lake for a short time. Somebody had a real amphibious car, and I saw it puttering along a few times. It really was something to see!

  5. Awesome toys and post Woodsy! This Aquacar is based on the U.S. Army GPA Amphibious Jeep and although referred to as a DUKW it is not. DUKW's were much larger. I have two GPA's in the collection - one of which I just got in this past week!

    1. Actually this is my post, Ed. When I did the post originally I did find a few photos online of the U S.Army version which did look very similar to the toy obut withoutthe top. As I mentioned to Baron, I've sadly not seen one in real life.
In my home home town of Southport we did have an old DUKW that was operated by the coast guard As you say it's a lot bigger.
