A couple of space scenes from the 1963 Lion annual, drawn by Sydney Jordon, best known for his Jeff Hawke newspaper strip.
Incredible Golden Age art - wow! SFZ
That illustration of the wheel space station reminded me of the Horikawa tinplate toy. I wonder if this piece is the original inspiration, or whether there may be some earlier art inspiring this?
Lovely evocative and detailed Illustrations like these seemed to be everywhere during the sixties and the then interest in the space race.
Love the Moonbase concept art!
Fab illustrations Scoop! The Moonbase has a SpaceX-like habitat pod too! The red tracked vehicle is fantastic, reminiscent of the Firefly.
Yeah, it's all nostalgic stuff. I might get round to Sydney Jordon's Jeff Hawke strips if I decide to do comic strip space heroes at some later date.
