Some photos of my 1973 printing of 'The Making of Star Trek' paperback. Apart from providing in -depth back ground info and incite about the series, in contains several B&W photos, production drawings and blueprints.
Yep, got that one (but the edition I'm really after is the silver one with the TV screen shaped shot of the ship), along with its companion volumes, 'The World of Star Trek' and 'The Trouble with Tribbles '.
One of the pre-Daedalus (Independence/Yorktown) ship drawings in that book looked a lot like Elon’s Starship (no sphere)
One had a shuttle orbiter payload bay—but the other had a flat grid that looked like Stardust’s aerogel array: https://www.planetary.org/articles/20140815-stardust-home-dust-found
A favor—might you post the images of those earliest drawings here?
BTW, there is someone at the trekbbs called FEEK who had done work to update this book-before things fell through.
Roddenberry did the lyrics without telling omposer,Alexander Courage who only found out when he received half the royalties , which quite rightly led to a bit of a fall out.
I had the Lost Worlds of 2001, but unfortunately, like the title it's lost! I've still got my 'The Making of Space:1999' which attempted to mimic the success of the Star Trek book, but, although highly collectable these days, not remotely as successful.
Wow, been a long time. My copy should be... somewhere.
ReplyDeleteTime to dig it out and a re-read, Baron.: )

ReplyDeleteI have that on—from a school book fair.

I'll see what I can do, Anon.
DeleteHa! Who knew the Star Trek theme had lyrics?!?! Was this ever recorded by anybody? SFZ
ReplyDeleteNot that I recall. After the composer handed in the theme, Roddenberry dashed off lyrics so he would share royalties. It was a cash grab.

DeleteCool Scoop!
ReplyDeleteA book to look out for, Ed.
DeleteI had this book as a teen, along with The Making of 2001:A Space Odyssey.
ReplyDeleteFor an information starved VFX wannabe, they were oasises in a desert!

Yep, I had this paperback a while too, a car boot buy in the 90's. A great book.
ReplyDeleteIt's a popular book with Trekkies, Woodsy.
