Dirty Jane's antique market in Bowral NSW Australia is one of the nicer antique stores still around, although I notice their overall prices are creeping up recently...
Viewers in Blighty may derive some amusement from these Colonial prices! ( halve A$ prices to get £!)
So here's a quick squizz from down under...
1) Some Tarzan books caught my eye and I thought "Woodsy would like to see those..
2) Plastic Gorillas and Werewolves, including a Petterson/Gimlin pose Bigfoot - too tasty at $35 each!
3) Wyn Toys, Wyn-Toy Products Pty Ltd, 1940-1982.
Australian made metal toy in fair unrestored condition...
4) Stupid prices on vintage die-casts
5) An amusing Australian Air Force livery, pedal style fighter display. Sadly NFS.
6) "£25 for a pair of plastic Noddy and Big Ears egg cups? Tell 'em they're dreaming!"
7) "Hmm, I recognise that name, what's that doing here? Oh right, this stall is PhotoAntiques.
My Dad displayed his stuff in their upstairs gallery back in the '90s. This is probably a gift to them, which they're now trying to get a return on!"

35 Aus dollar bucks for a Movie Thunderbird 1? What are they smoking! Did you point out the familial connection to the Dali portrait? Its a bit naughty trying to resell a gift! Bill
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tour, Looey. Great to see what's out there in your neck of the woods.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you have ever come across Australian clones of Pyro / Kleeware / Tudor Rose space toys. They seem to be rare as hen's teeth and quite impossible to obtain from this afar.
Were you down in Australia, your best bet for those types of items would be Sydney's Hurstville Collectables Fair which runs a couple of times every year.
DeleteAs Handyman Joe used to say in 1970s Nock & Kirby TV ads...
"Bring your money with you"!
30 plus years ago I took a trip to the States, L.A. and Vegas, 1st day shopping on Melrose blvd my friends and I found a shop called Cadillac Jack's, mostly vintage clothing i couldn't afford, i found myself drawn to an armoured display cabinet behind the counter, inside were these beautiful silk kipper ties from the 40's and 50's, the guy behind the counter asked if he could help me, and literally as I asked if these ties were hand painted Salvador Dali ...he finished my sentence yes these are hand painted Salvador Dali silk ties... he added, you'll notice that there isn't any prices for these ties i replied...Is that because you're asking for silly money for these ties??
ReplyDeleteHis response was Yes very silly money🤣
Ha ha! That's hilarious MJ!
DeleteA great look around - prices can vary so much.
ReplyDeleteThose Tarzan books are by Whitman in the USA.
What is that red plane under the truck - a DC-3 ?
In among the die-cast figures, the Dinky Supermarine Swift and Hawker Hunter jets.
I do like that P-51 Mustang pedal car
According to Google Lens it's
Delete1950'S NIEDERMEIER LEVER ACTION FLYING AIRPLANES AROUND THE WORLD BOXED
(look it up on eBay!)
Two identical tinplate planes on wires, orbiting a tinplate globe hemisphere clockwork toy. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this was just one plane on offer!
Thank you. I had a look, and it seems to be a jet or rocket powered fantasy design, but the wing shape is very like that of the DC-3. On taking a second look, I can see a wire attached to the starboard wing of the red plane.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great emporium Looey, like in Blighty! Prices are going up here too!
