Cor! Here's Arto's original Mattel Zython figure, as it first appeared on the Catacombs website, stood in front of two fabulous Star Maidens dolls.
Here's the image link.
and Arto's recent happy development and very lucky for the blog - after years and years of being stashed away, he managed to locate his rare Mattel 1977 German Spielzeug dealer catalogue, showing Mattel's Space 1999 action figures including the elusive Zython.
Enjoy these special photos.

What a great collection. Old catalogues are a gold mine of information.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul. Yes indeed, old toy catalogues are great sources of information and fun to watch too.
DeleteAny other Space toys in there Arto.
ReplyDeleteSorry no Bill, mostly Barbie, Big Jim, and Karl May action figures which were popular in Germany.
DeleteI'm just amazed that Mattel thought it was a good idea to make a Space 1999 toy figure of a character that didn't exist in the show, or anywhere else !
ReplyDeleteMish that's exactly what gets my juices flowing. The odder the better!
DeleteWow, wow, wow - Mattel Toys 1977! Doesn't get much better than that. I am so impressed you managed to save this treasure! SFZ
ReplyDeleteThanks Rob. There must be more of these German catalogues around, but this is the only example I've ever come across. Unless they withdrew it because of Zython!
ReplyDeleteMattel recycled their spare Sunshine Family bodies - moulded in green - for their Zython figure, although they didn't get to recycle many if only 300 were made as prizes in the German Zack competition. I've certainly never seen one on my many trips to Germany.
ReplyDeleteAn apposite coincidence, Familie Sonnenschein features also in the '77 catalogue.
