Das Oldtimer Show, Ewald Mine

Whilst staying in Recklinghausen, Germany, last Autumn, the Missus and me visited a fabulous vintage car show at an old coal mine.

Here's a few snaps, which I hope you enjoy.

Which is your favourite car?

  1. Lots of beautiful cars there, lots of nostalgia, but I'd kill for one of those +-1970 Corvettes.

    1. Me too Baron! That's yours truly at the end eyeing up the magnificient green Stingray and wondering if I could miniaturise it! I had the very same as a die-cast toy as a kid in gloss green just like it! Happy days!

That looks like a great day out, and a very interesting coal mine. Lovely buildings.
The DeLorean tops my list, followed by the older, 1950s cars.

    1. It was a fab day out thanks Paul and the old mine setting was brilliant, now set up for events like this. Yes, the DeLorean is a brilliant design and forever associated with Marty McFly!

  3. I quite like the Citroën DS. I had a big friction drive one as a kid. In the inspired colour choice of grey!

    1. Wow, I wonder what make that was Kev? Telsalda, Lucky? Coincidentally the Citroen CS was my Missus' favourite car there too!

    2. I'd love to know the make. I remember it was much larger than Dinky etc and quite detailed. It may have been from the continent, we used to go to Belgium a lot when I was young, an aunt lived there.

  4. Wow - I was actually more intrigued by the old mine buildings - how cool they are! But as for the cars, I'll take the Karmann Ghia and the Studebaker, please! SFZ

    1. Yes, deep minings all but gone in Germany SF, like the UK. In the Ruhr Valley the cities do a great job keeping the old mine buildings safe and usable, part of their industrial heritage.

  5. What a selection! Personally I think the 1972/3 model Corvettes were the last great styling phase of the Stingray marque.
I was sort of expecting to see a BMW Isetta on display too!
