RING OUT SOLSTICE BELLS

Although I'm not particularly religious, like many this time of year, churches always figure in my thoughts.

One or two churches do, of course figure in a couple of Gerry & Sylvia Anderson's TV series, along with classic Doctor Who serials.

Here's some photos I've taken of them during my location travels.

The church below, The Church of  St Mary The Virgin at  Church Hill, Harefield doubled as St David's in the Joe 90 Christmas episode episode, The Unorthodox Shepherd. The episode was also the inspiration for The Secret Service series.

The same church can also be seen at the end of the UFO episode, The Square Triangle, where Liz Newton attends Jack Newton's grave.

Below is The Church of St. Michael and All Angels at Hughenden Valley, High Wycombe. This is the church that features in The Secret Service.

St. Michaels Church at Aldbourne. This church featured in the popular classic Doctor Who serial, The Daemons.

This memorial in the Oxfordshire village of East Hagbourne, was the setting for the classic Doctor Who serial , The Android Invasion. The village church, St Andrew's , seen down the lane didn't actually feature in the story, but I've included it as when we visited the location, the church wardens were so welcoming, and proud of there church, insisting we took a few photos  inside their church..

  1. An interesting group of church locations Scoop.
Many years ago, I worked on location at the St Lawrence Church in Hawkhurst, Kent, on the Sylvester McCoy DrWho story 'The Curse of Fenric'.

    1. Thanks Mish. You must have some great memories working on those later classic Who stories.

  3. I haven't Googled it, but the Church location for American Werewolf in London comes to mind...

    1. Hi Lewis, all the best. I have seen American Werewolf in the distance past, but not being much of a horror fan I must confess I'm not familiar with that church. To be honest the only people I can remember in it are the late Rick Mayall having a minor role in a pub scene, and, of course, the lovely Jenny Agutter.
