I've made a scratchbuild of the scanner that Bergman uses in the Space 1999 episode 'Earthbound '. I managed to find the same model of Braun hairdryer that they used to make the original prop.
Fabulous work Kevin! It looks completely real and I agree, the finish is so clean and neat like the original I imagine. I love how you tracked down an original hairdryer for authenticity! Was that on Ebay? How did you make the front tube with the silver element inside?
Thanks. I can't take much credit for the finish. I chose to make this model at this time of year because it didn't need painting! Yep, ebay provided the hairdryer. The clear tube was a piece of perspex with bits from my spares box put in it.
Beautiful replica Kevin, but an example of when a futuristic prop, made from a contemporary object, still looks rather like the original object. The original prop is nicely finished, but is clearly a hairdryer with bits on.
Another great build. Beautiful finish.
ReplyDeleteThank you.

Thanks. Yep, you're absolutely right. The real irony being it was Bergman's hairdryer!
ReplyDeleteHa ha, good point. I hadn't thought of that.
ReplyDeleteThat is soooo cool! I envy all you guys that can make things out of seemingly innocuous items!
ReplyDeleteThanks.
