Ed's Christmas Cardboard Fireplace 1964

Woodsy,

Were cardboard fireplaces a thing in the UK?

The attached photo is from 1963 and shows the cardboard fireplace my mom bought!

Even though the house I grew up in was bult around 1900, there were no fireplaces, and these cardboard ones were a way to provide a little old-fashioned ambience (apparently, they're still being made but I think I'll pass on buying one for the house!).

I have never seen a cardboard fireplace before. They were certainly not available in New Zealand to my knowledge.

  3. I think it looks lovely Ed and your Mum purchased well, its instantly festive. I wonder how it was packed - even flat it must have been big to get home. I had thought your card hearth actually went round a real fire when you first mentioned it! ha ha, a cardboard fireplace, an oxymoron. I realise now that I'm the moron! There's no fire!

    1. My mom was a big decorating person, and very celebratory. Regardless of the holiday or special day she had to go over the top - the complete opposite of the way I turned out! LOL As kitschy as these appear at first, Amazon.com offers a very nice selection even to this day as holiday decorations, so they must still be popular.
