Model maestro and Blakes 7 aficionado Kevin Davies has made a score with another of the elusive Jotastar Blakes 7 toys. Originally released by Blue Box, the simple friction driven toys were branded to fit in with the tv series as a marketing tie in.
The range includes a saucer which looks very like some of the ships in the series and may have influenced Jotastar's decision to use the Blue Box range as the basis of the tie in.
Kev reports that he had all four of the vehicles over the years, but now just has two! The saucer and the second rocket are now in his sights!
All lovely toys, from a programme I have yet to see! Funny how all of these space toys were considered throwaway junk back in the day, and now they are as precious rare jewels! SFZ
ReplyDeleteIt's available on dvd soon, Zig. I was never a fan, really as it was too political and dry for me!
DeleteDry?, dry?!!!? Well, it was political, that's true! It's been out on DVD for years, the first season is due out on blu ray next month.
ReplyDeleteHa ha sorry Kev - I'm speaking from my experience back in the day! I might appreciate it more these days! Bill
DeleteHee, hee. I did an exhibition of Blake's 7 props as part of the Brit SciFi event at the Leicester Space Centre last month. It seemed to me that it was mainly those of a certain vintage that knew what it was!
DeleteI have to say that I always preferred the later series with the Scorpio in it, as it seemed a bit more action orientated. A beautiful ship design too. Shame Corgi didnt do any more B7 models. Bill
DeleteInteresting that, as season 4 is my least favourite. I always wished Corgi had done a big Liberator. There are a few variations of their little one, I think I've got all of them.
DeleteTheres a saucer on ebay uk now a snip at £98.
ReplyDeleteThanks, indeed there is, possibly a bit too much of a snip for me! I have, in the past, bought original, screen used Blake's 7 costumes for less!
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know, none of these toys were based on spaceships seen in the show, so I don't see how they are worth anything at all (other than their basic vintage toy value).
ReplyDeleteThey were officially licensed merchandise for the show and some people collect that. They are quite rare, so I suppose those two things have an effect on the value. Does seem rather a lot though.
