With a project in mind, a while back I bagged a cheap toy bazooka at a boot sale.
I wanted to recreate the old Dr. Who Anti-Dalek Neutron Exterminator I got excited about the first time I saw it in an old Dr. Who merchandise book I have.
So, I began the project the other day.
The bazooka got new barrels courtesy of an old hoover in the shed and I turned one of its handles around. The basic shape is there but lots more detail to come.
In the meantime, I've a few Daleks trying to get upstairs. It should take them .... forever!
The barrel on that original toy looks like a cardboard tube wrapped in silver foil...

DeleteI just thought I'd add to your post about Daleks climbing the stairs... Since my retirement, I've started watching Dr Who from the beginning. As up until half way through Partick Troughtons era, I was a bit too scared to watch the series.
ReplyDeleteSo this week, I've reached 1965 and finished watching The Chase. This is the story where Barbara and Ian finally return home after the TARDIS is chased through time and space by the Daleks in an effort to kill the Doctor. In one part of the story, the Daleks land on the Mary Celeste, which causes it to be abandoned. However, a Dalek is seen on the upper deck of the ship. As they had landed in the Mid section, the only way it could have got there would have been by climbing the stairs!
Having said that, later in the story, Ian cracks a joke about them following the escaping TARDIS crew up a ladder.
Years later Sylvester McCoys Doctor did taunt a Dalek's inability to climb stairs, only for it to levitate up after him.
Still it's all really unnecessary, as real Daleks don't climb the stairs, they just level the building!
ha ha, that last line made me howl Bill! Its been a Dalek cliche forever hasn't it, the stairs thing! Maybe they can get into a Stenna stairlift! What a great and marathon project, watching Dr. Who from the start in your retirement. Brilliant!
DeleteYou're right Looey - the tube is cardboard! It's a re-issue of a Remco Marine Bazioka, marketed by Lincoln International. The handle was pushed back and air compression in the tube shot the bullet out. Cheap and cheerful! Bill
ReplyDeleteCheap, cheerful and not that easy to copy! I opted for metal tubes as they were lying around in the shed, An upgrade! The original Remco version costs a fortune!
