Junior 90

I've been reading Joe 90 Annual strips to Junior this week before bed. He really likes them - Rat Trap and the like. It's the Annual with Big Rat in the cover.

Junior made a couple of observations: he asked if Mac's Car has the same legs and tyres as his die-cast Lunar Bug? Are they related?

The other thing was whether Joe 90 was as famous as Thunderbirds? We agreed that Thunderbirds was an A-lister, but where is Joe 90? B-list? What else are A and B- listers?

  1. I wonder if it changes with time. A couple of years ago I did an exhibition of some of my replicas and the ones that got the most interest were the Terrahawks ones!

    1. Interesting Kevin. I've hardly seen any Terrahawks!

  2. Personally I think Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet are peak Anderson.
After all these years I still can't settle on a favourite. Everything else they did was either a build up to, or a wind down from these amazing two series!

    1. I agree with your A list Looey. I wondered if Stingray is an A lister too?

  3. ...when talking about puppet shows!
Live action efforts are a whole separate subject!

    1. I always preferred the Anderson puppet shows, but Gerry was always quite derogative of them, preferring his live action work, which I found quite derivative.

    2. UFO is Gerry's top live action show IMHO.

  4. Macs Car is definitely an influence on the Lunar Bug, but as that was a Corgi, rather than a Dinky product, they are not the same. The Macs Car has sprung suspension, too, whereas the Lunar Bug has multi positional rear wheels, to allow for access to the rear bay. The big chrome jet engines on the roof are a direct knock off too! Bill

    1. I had both as a kid but I recall my Lunar Bug most.

Stingray was the first Gerry Anderson show I saw, and made me a fan for life, so to me it is very special. As far as I know, this was the first Gerry Anderson show to screen in NZ, unless there was something on before I had access to a TV set (I watched Stingray at the home of a neighbour, as we did not yet have a TV set of our own).
