JUNIOR'S DIG

Moonbase Junior's here for a week of his summer holidays. Remember them! Six weeks off!

To keep him entertained - for a while - I set up0 an archaeology dig station in the garden. Junior loves fossils and pottery bits.

The work station has trowels, brushes, a small electric file and all manner of other bits.

oh, and a dig trench, where I've hidden various fossils and metal oddments like a 1935 penny.

Were you a budding archaeologist or paleontologist when you were a kid readers?

  1. Back in the 1950's I dug a deep hole in the garden to create a pond.
At about three feet down I hit metal. As I cleared around it it was cylindrical.
I knew that in WW2 our house was in he line of bombs dropped on Highgate Station of the LNER.
My dad helped clear more soil away and it turned out to be a sewer pipe.
The hole was filled in again and I was told no more attempt at a pond was allowed.

    1. Oh blimey, I bet your folks were on pins when they saw that metal Terran! Phew! It's like the start of Quatermass and the Pit TV series. Did you see that at the time?

    2. I was allowed to watch the TV show when it first aired. I was then disappointed by the movie version.

I am sure Moonbase Junior is going to have a ton of fun with that dig. A real treasure hunt.

    1. He likes the small battery operated file set the most Paul. A nail polisher really, great for polishing rocks!
