Woodsy and Fellow Moonbasers,
Here's a wonderful Marx auto hauler I've had for many a moon now.
This hauler is designed such that the upper deck actually tilts down to accommodate unloading of the cars. I have two of these haulers, but the second one is missing its unloading ramp. Unlike the other transporters I've sent photos of, this one is about the right size for a 3-rail O-gauge train layout.
However, due to space limitations, we tend to make the roads on our layouts quite narrow, making this piece more of a display piece to set off to one side.
The last attachment is a page from a '50s Montgomery Wards Christmas Wishbook featuring this hauler as part of a larger service station playset (BTW, I have that playset but haven't yet taken photos of it).

That is a great looking toy, and must have provided hours of fun.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, I had a Marx service station very similar to the one show (mine had different lithography but the station itself was the same). While my station didn't come with the auto hauler, it was still loads of fun and one of those toys of my childhood I remember vividly.
DeleteBoy, this pretty toy really evokes some vague memories - I wonder if I had one, or something similar? The design of the piece and the multicolored cars all ring a weird bell in the back of my brain. And that catalog page is just a bounty of Wish List Heaven! SFZ
ReplyDeleteThat happens to me quite often Zigg. I look at a toy and can't seem to shake the feeling I had one as a kid. Maybe one of my friends had it or maybe it was just something I wanted but never got.
