Batman might prefer his Batmobiles in black, but Hot Wheels like a little variety. The latest version of the 1989 movie car is white, with black tampo-printed stripes, clear purple windows, and purple wheel rims.
This is a tie-in model for the recent DC Superhero movie The Flash, with the movie title in the upper left hand corner of the card. Although it seems the car in the film is the usual Batmobile black.
The model is part of the 2023 Batman sub-series. It has a black-painted metal baseplate, with the copyright dates "2004, '17" cast-in, and a white plastic body. Made in Malaysia.
The 1989 movie car is also available in dark grey with orange stripes, but this does not have The Flash on the card.

Thats one gorgeous white Batmobile Paul. You must have loads of Batmobiles!
ReplyDeleteYes, Hot Wheels keep pumping them out, and I keep buying them. They are a pretty colourful horde.
ReplyDeleteI've been jonesing for somebody to do a hot wheels custom finish on the new McFarlane Toys 1989 Batmobile, maybe the white finish or the flame pinstripes
ReplyDeleteWhat does Jonesing mean MJ?
DeleteA craving, in particular to see that model toy car with a bonkers paint finish
DeleteNow that is a new one on me. Is it related to Keeping up the Jones'?
DeleteEr, no. Unfortunately it's become a drug reference but it's from an older time originally
DeleteThe white one is a nice rendition Paul -- would make a good wintertime ride (at least in the northern climes)! Based on your input about Mattel's First Batmobile I went ahead and bought one, but overall, except for the occasional odd purchase I'm calling it quits. I do have other unusual Batmobiles in the collection like Mattel's Halloween 1966 Batmobile but generally stay away from them.
ReplyDeleteWe need to see that Halloween Batmobile this Halloween Ed!
DeleteIt's something I have heard others complain about that collector toy company's are constantly releasing models in endless color variations to entice collectors to buy endless variations of the same toy. I have no problem with it but It is a real pain to completists.
DeleteWoodsy, if you want I can send pictures and you keep them in your folders for when the time is ripe.
DeleteI tend to be a completist as well but Mattel is the biggest transgressor of all with it's mind numbing amount of variations. I simply cut them off cold turkey except for the occasional purchase now. They produce several hundred new Hot Wheels every year and many are nothing more than older models re-hashed with different paint schemes. It must be working for them because they're still in business!
DeleteYes please Ed, Halloween Mobile pics welcomed!
DeleteThe other side of the coin is when they issue a toy in such small numbers that the price rises to silly levels as soon as it hits the shelves. I find the hobby more fun and a lot cheaper if I just buy what I come by that I find interesting and quit obsessing over things I don't have.
ReplyDeleteOlder models with different paint schemes give you a second (or twenty third) chance to get a model you may have missed out on the first time around. Many times I have found a color I like better than one I may already have. Trying to get them all is a fools errand.
ReplyDeleteIt also keeps the costs down.
