Ding Dong!

The previous post rang a bell for me, as I have a couple of Avon premiums, from back in the day! First up is the Avon moon Flight Bubble Bath, with playmat and capsule.
The lid detaches from the bottle to become a lunar lander and the main (emptied) bottle becomes the command vehicle. Squeezing the bottle pops off the lander too.
The game is basically a turn based route to the moon, using counters and a die. Avon probably made loads of space-themed items, such as robot shaped bubble bath containers and I remember my sister being an Avon agent and looking at the catalogue every few months to see if there was anything good.

Another space themed item, is this lovely art deco Spaceship, which was given to me some time ago by Paul V. I assume its an Avon piece given its designation 'AV-1', but there's no makers marks on it.
My other obsession has always been totem poles, so spotting an Avon aftershave bottle, I had to grab it! This one came with the original box and held 'Wild Country' aftershave, which I can still smell!
The bottle is brown glass, with a tampo transfer on the outside and the lid is a nifty plastic Eagle figure.

  1. Ah, the Seventies Bill. Your own passion for these two lovely Avon bottles are a great example of the many glorious obsessions of that flared decade. Space, the Wild West, old-timers, Victoriana, the Occult, ocean Liners, airplanes and many more. You can spot Seventies stuff a mile off, the earthy browns and fabulous fonts. It's amazing you've still got the boxes for your bottles Bill, they'd be the first to go when a kid or teenager tried out the contents. Does Avon Still exist?

Another great collection of classic Avon bottles. Around 25 years ago my Mother had a friend who was an Avon rep, and she got various novelties. Alas, nothing like this.

  3. Very cool Bill! I'm at the point now where I'm almost tempted to buy an unused bottle of Wild Country. I said 'almost' because I'm still working on a years old bottle of very '70s Jovan Musk Oil LOL

  4. I haven't seen them since but I remember a rocket toy that was fixed to the side of a box of laundry detergent in the sixties. It was a long plastic tube with a bellows on the bottom and a Mercury capsule on top. When you struck the bellows with the palm of your hand the capsule shot off with a distinctive pop. Great free toy.

  5. Not sure. Probably Tide as I doyoun't you think my mom would buy a detergent she didn't like just for the toy. I searched a few years ago and couldn't find any information on the net. It was one of the most cool premium toys I can remember. You couldn't use them indoors.

  9. My Mom used to sell Avon so we had a lot of the cologne items. I had the Moon Flight bubble bath. It was fun for the time but I've no idea where mine went. Either off into the trash or sold with random old toys at a garage sale.

I can confirm that the AV-1 is also an Avon product. It was filled with bubble bath. I know mine hung around long after all the liquid was used up but suspect it went away in my teens as my tastes changed.
