Avon Calling!

Woodsy,

That '007' Spy Bath decanter was pretty cool - never knew there was such a product!

It brought to mind the series of after shave decanters Avon sold back in the day.

They came in a wide variety of shapes and I can remember having probably a dozen or so - it was one of my early collections.

The photos were all culled from fleaBay but give you an indication of what these things were like. Remember them?

Cheers

Those are really nice. Two look to be chess pieces ?

    1. yes, they had two sets of chess pieces: one with dark bodies and plated caps, the other with light-colored bodies and dark caps. One would have to fork out a lot of dough to get two complete chess teams.

    2. The chess of scents Paul. Which aftershave to use today? It was very cool at the time, like soap on a rope!

    3. I think the horses head is not a chess Knight, but rather a horses head hitching post which is why it has the ring through the nose as that was a typical Antebellum thru Victorian era type post (at least here in the States)

    1. Back in the day I thought they were so cool and ended up with maybe four or five.

    2. Oldtimers were everywhere in the 70s. Wallpaper, bins, cups, coasters and ... Aftershave! How cool.

  3. OMG! This is the best reason to follow the blog. I'd completely forgotten that I had one of these as a kid! The car, grey in this picture; mine was blue. A gift from someone, and I had it for years. :-)

    1. Great stuff! I always assumed they contained aftershave Baron. Maybe some were kids' bubble bath?

    2. Sorry to disillusion you Woodsy, it's aftershave. A part of growing up.

    3. Ha ha, I did grow up Baron. Just can't recall my first use of after shave. I imagine it was in my teens, although I don't recall shaving.

  4. I bought a glass Jaguar a month or so ago. Still full of the aftershave.

    1. Really! Oh what night you'll have when you crack it open! Just splash it all over, unbutton your shirt half way and feel the fawning!

  5. Like the old Hi-Karati commercials. The 70s were a blast.

  7. My mum was an Avon rep and I remember a few of these, there was a ladies cologne that they still made until recently that smelled exactly like Christmas crepe wrapping paper from the early 70's

    1. Really! I wonder that that was called MJ? Did you get to go to any of your Mum's Avon evenings? I remember my Mum wearing Yardley products and her buying Charlie perfume for my sisters. Happy scented days!

    2. Yep the Avon parties, with all the neighbours, and the delivery day with 10 or so boxes and we had to sort the orders out, I think there's still Avon logo boxes in my parents loft, I got the blue fabric suitcase with the zip flap for displaying products, something so American 70's, I'll find a picture and send it over
