A mate rang me last night and asked if me and the Missus wanted to see Elf the movie at the cinema. Cineworld is showing a stocking-full of Christmas classics on the big screen this year.
Amazingly our mate hasn't seen Elf. Its one of those relatively modern films, like Home Alone, that's skated its way into the heart of old Christmas.
There's even frosted whispering that Elf maybe even the greatest Christmas movie of all time. No Turkey awards here!
Like all films its all a matter of taste. Have you seen Elf? What's your favourite festive film readers?
Personally, I cant stand Will Ferrer. That aside, it is a funny film - especially James Caan being on the naughty list! My personal favourites are Bad Santa 2, Scrooged and the original 1951 version of Christmas Carol with Alistair Sim. Historically, I always roll out Thunderbirds are Go! and watch the Zero X roll out sequence and fast forward past the god awful Cliff Richard cameo, before indulging myself with the BBC TV Quatermass and the Pit serial, with the uber suave Andre Morelle! DeleteWill Ferrell is one of the UN-funniest 'comedians' out there. I've seen bits and pieces of the movie on TV over the years, enough so that I can say I've seen the whole movie - just not all at one time. It's sort of okay. 'Home Alone' (and 'Home Alone 2') on the other hand, has firmly ensconced itself in my psyche as one THE holiday movies on my must watch list.

ReplyDeleteI find "Bad Santa" to be one of the funniest Christmas themed movies I've ever seen. It's blasphemous, profane and has few if any wholesome holiday messages, but it seems to capture the spirit of Christmas in the post-2000 USA very well.
Not seen Bad Santa fully. It's sequel is out now at the flicks.
