SKULL OF ECONOMICS: THE HORROR MONSTER MONEY BANK

Here's a variation of one my favourite 'classic' toys, the Coffin Bank.

The Horror Monster.

This bank has a whole skeleton exposed so I assume that both hands grab the coin.

But it wasn't this that intrigued me, it was the fabulous box art.

First up they have lifted the MONSTER lettering from the classic Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine as you can see here on issue 35:

The grave serpent on the box has been lifted too.

Its from a Patrick Woodroffe painting called the Graveyard as pictured below. The skulls have been added on the box art.

What do you think? Would you save money in this?

  1. This is yet another fine piece of detective work, following on from Arto's earlier piece de resistance, Woodsy. Baffled by how you guys make these obscure connections? Nonetheless, fantastic money box art work.

    1. Thanks Tone. I adored Patrick Woodroffe as a teenager and know his work well so I recognised the snake straight away!

I would be too afraid to get anywhere near that money box. Another great piece of detective work.

  3. I recognized that “Monster” font immediately! And that issue of FMoF you show was from October 1958, with two of my favorite flicks, Night of the Blood Beast and Godzilla, King of the Monsters (sic) mentioned on the cover! SFZ
