THE HORNBY LOOFAH!

In the 1930’s Hornby used loofahs for their hedges and trees for their 0 gauge railway range, cut and coloured various shades of green. The hedges were mounted on strips of wood and held in place with nails. The trees had a dowel trunk inserted into a cast base. Pic shows some on my layout.
Enjoy!

Cheers.

Thank you for showing these. I doubt many have survived the decades, so it is good to see some still in use.

  2. Loofa was a common scenery item in the '30s and I've had Lionel house plots from that time period which used it. I have used it on my 2-rail Hornby layout to get that vintage look but I have to admit it's not my favorite.

  3. I've made my own, which is good fun to do and nicely fills out the layout (both 0-gauge and Bing Table Railway in early 00). Very old pics show a few here https://www.dutchhrca.nl/collpv.html
