THIS FLIGHT TONIGHT

I've always liked air traffic control towers.

Here's a modern FWDP one in a blister pack I saw on an online shop!

It looks great on this airfield I saw online.

Do you think Derek Meddings would have used this?

Have you got an airfield or tower?

  1. I don't have one, but I have a friend who worked on Die Hard. If you look closely they put a miniature Elvis in the model airport.

  2. Meddings would've used it as a microphone for a puppet to be holding.

    1. Ha ha! It actually reminds me of an Action Man German Soldier stick grenade.

That is a really nice control tower set. Airfix did a WW2 RAF Control Tower kit in the late 1950s, as part of their model railway building range.

    1. Did the RAF take over existing control towers and airports in WWII Paul? Just wondering.

  4. The grandkids had a nice Playmobil control tower, which was demolished to make way for online games.

  6. A few years back I bought a 2'x8' shelf to place in The Cave and painted it to resemble a landing strip. I posed some hangars and airplanes on it and took photos and for maybe a year or so it came in handy for photo ops, but then it degenerated into just another shelf full of toys

    1. Sounds like you got a good year out of it Ed. My projects fizz and fade much quicker. Fickle is not the word! This years love is Transformers! But for how long?

    2. I notice myself trending in cycles that tend to last a year or two. This past year has been Western toys (lots of Cowboys & Indians stuff), and vehicles (just toy cars and trucks in general as well as Batman), and circus toys. The subjects just sort of morph into the blog without much planning. I start something and then run with it for months! I guess that counts as fickle as well huh? :-)

    3. I'm pretty bad that way, too. I get on a roll with reading, going through say tons of noir stories. Next thing you know I'm into a post-apocalypse kick. It's even worse with my hobby, role-playing games. I get all excited about a particular genre, say swashbucklers. I read a bunch on it and maybe recruit players and plan out an adventure. Then I drop it like last year's prom date and move on to something else. Sometimes it's so bad that I'm bored before I even get the game to the table. But I'm not a total loss. There are games I could keep playing for years. :-)
