I had an action figure that had a little arrangement of pipes with a nozzle that was for use in space walks, but I can't remember which one it came with. Then of course there's this: https://www.lulu-berlu.com/upload/image/major-matt-mason---mattel---major-matt-mason-flight-pak--ref6300--loose-p-image-335647-grande.jpg
Ha! Me too! My "methodical" Grand Dad used to help me back in the day. I seem to think Wildtoy's MMM blog has instructions for rewiring that particular gizmo!
Yes, in light blue. It was part of the Action Apparel accessory line. From photographs, it appears the main tank unit is the same as the scuba diver air tanks, with added jet nozzles.
Don't think I ever had any of those ace Gilbert 007 figures as a kid. Don't ring a bell but they do look cool. Jet packs, scuba diving, what a life James led!
James Bond in Thunderball. That would have made a great Airfix kit.
ReplyDeleteOf course! I thought we'd all have jetpacks by now Paul!

ReplyDeleteHa! Beat me to it Baron! That groovy spinning Fluorescent pink spiral just screams "Based on actual space hardware"!
DeleteI wonder if you mean the Redbox astronaut Baron?

DeleteThat looks like the gadget, but I didn't have that set.
DeleteWonder if yours was the Hasbro GI Joe Astronaut Baron?
DeleteI don't think I had it.
DeleteLooey, I once took apart the MMM spiral backpack to unjam the string. Talk about fiddley!

DeleteI'd go for the early '70s vintage Action Man Space Explorer jetpack, Woodsy. A large orange and white unit, perfect for toy space exploration.
ReplyDeleteYep, that's a classic Tone. Isn't there one with a helicopter unit on top as well?
DeleteYep, the ubiquitous Turbo-copter. Cost effective air travel for Action Man.
DeleteDidnt Gilbert make a jet pack gor their James Bond figures?

DeleteHow about the Captain Scarlet jet pack seen in a couple of episodes, at least (is it a Spectrum one ?).
ReplyDeleteIt's the unit on the back of the Bonux figure, itself a copy of a Spanish one I think?

My favourite is probably to be found in the pages of the Trigan Empire!
