BIG CHIEF NO MORE

Sad to read that the high quality figure collections company Big Chief, which did a range of Anderson related figures, has gone into administration.

My sympathies go to the company employees, and the many people who pre-ordered the John Koenig figure, and the new range of Anderson action  figures.

I don't know for sure what caused the company to collapse, but from what I gather the recent Covid epidemic created a lot of delays.

Whatever the reason, it's sad to see yet another niche firm go bust.

    1. I don't own any myself, but yes, the ones I've seen close up look to be very good.

  2. Yes, a shame.
It must be really difficult to meet a price point for these speciality figures, that can generate enough sales to return a decent profit.
Oddly, to me, the Koenig figure looks the most 'wooden'.

    1. Absolutely Mish, I'm always impressed by companies who are prepared to take the financial risk on producing these niche items. Unfortunately in this case Big Chief appeared to rely on pre-order payments to get a lot of it's projects off the ground. Now it looks to be leaving some people worried about whether they'll get their money back.

  3. That's sad news, Scoop. They produced some really nice figures. Hope people don't lose their pre-order payments. I was tempted by the Spectrum figures but held back.

    1. It is indeed, Tony. I wonder if it will make people much more hesitant about pre-paying for orders from other companies in the future.

  4. I certainly sympathise with those who lost their money. About two years ago i plonked down around $300 or 150 pounds for a 12 inch Captain Scarlet figure. Delivery kept being put back and back and now being well beyond the Paypal refund period, I'm pretty certain I've done my dosh!

    1. I ordered and pre-paid for the Baron blu-ray film set from Network not long before they went bust. Thankfully, a week after they ceased trading I did get a full refund, so hopefully people who have pre-ordered figures from Big Chief might stand a chance of getting their money returned.

  5. Very sad.

Toy firms need an internet billionaire to bail them out.
