Manga and Anime only really reached british shores in the 90's. Back in 1979 it was specialist imports only. From the mid 1980's Eclipse comics introduced 'Xenon' an early body horror/cyborg strip, which then paved the way for other titles. Dark Horse picked up 'Dirty Pair' inked and written by Adam Warren, Marvel's Epic line published 'Akira' and then in 1993, the monthly 'Manga Mania' magazine ran reprints of various manga. Today, manga and anime style comics are as popular as mainstream strips. I have an attic groaning with manga - 'The Guyver', 'Outlanders', 'Silent Moebius', 'Ghost in the Shell', 'Battle Angel Alita' to name but a few. Eventually, it was almost impossible to keep up with the output of imports due to the higher cost and prolific publishing schedules. Bill
Neat. You could probably make a flying replica of that with a drone!

ReplyDeleteAh, yes... I certainly was, although it was a difficult hunt in those days. I blame Shogun Warriors for my ongoing addiction!
