The was a story called 'Rising With Surtsey." More recently a pleasure craft sailed through pumice, with an eruption taking place in its wake. There have been similar events-Sandia's Spaulding mentioned what might have been mud from a Pacific gas blow-out a half century back or more. Detached vegetation mats can be floating islands.

ReplyDeleteIt was news in the Sixties! A new island off the coast of Iceland. Reminds me of other nature based news back then like Kon Tiki.
