GM GAS TURBINE CAR 1964: ITS A BLAST!

I was blown away by this! 1stDibs auctions listed it as

"General Motors gas turbine concept model, The Bison Series, Possibly by Syd Mead or Tom Semple . The vehicle was built and shown at 1964 World's Fair."

I've also seen it described elsewhere as a Derek Meddings design from Thunderbirds! Does something like this appear in the show?

Do you like this design readers?

It would make a great die-cast toy!

  1. It's very like the cab of the trucks that transport the mobiles in UFO.

A futuristic factory run-about, with a flat-deck for carrying loads ? Every good Bond villain's lair needs a fleet.
I was wondering how the driver got in and out, but there seems to be a faint door outline on the left side.

  4. Its definitely General Motors from the 64 Worlds Fair, but i'm not sure its a Bison. This was a full size truck developed by GM as a demonstration rig for the fair. This was probably a small scale model from one of the cases or the working Futurama II layout. Not a Syd Mead design either, although you can see his influence.

    1. Fascinating insights. I'll look for Bison and get them on Moonbase.
