LIKE PEAS IN A POD

Watching Star Wars A New Hope again with Junior I was struck how similar the R2D2 escape pod was to something else in my mind.

This.

The Aries 1B from 2001.

Turns out they're completely different!

Can you think of any other pod craft like these?

  4. Dropships from Battletech are often egg or ball shaped.

    1. I like those Lance. Is Battletech a range of toys?

    2. Actually a large range of table top wargaming miniatures. Many of the early models of mechs were just repurposed model kits from Macross, Dougram and Cursher Joe. Battletech was later on a cartoon series that had toys that were meh. If you've heard of Mechwarrior, that is actually set in the Battletech universe. It's rather deep in lore and detail, maybe not as much as Warhammer 40K.

  5. Long ago, i read a story that said the SW escape pod was built using a Kentucky Fried Chicken bucket. I do wonder if that was just a concept model, as thin card wouldn't hold up well to the rigours of studio filming!
