JAPANESE SPACE BIKES

These are new to me  - and to the blog I think, a display card of space motorbikes from Japan.

I saw it on auction so saved the image.

I adore the header art. Looks like a Shigeru Komatsuzaki to me. What do you think?

The toy is difficult to make out. It maybe transparent.

  1. Magnificent stuff! I'm actually working on the layout of a header card at the moment, so this is a welcome break for me!
I'm not 100% sure this is Shigeru Komatsuzaki... Without his trademark signature, it's harder to tell if this is the Master -or one of his many imitators!

  2. The bikes do look transparent, Woodsy. I wonder if they were inspired by Takara's translucent larger 1/6 scale Cyborg range, in particular the Cyborg Rider set from the early '70s?

  3. I agree that they are transparent. They also are technically a quad bike. We have a single front wheel. We have a rather wide rear wheel that looks to actually be two separate wheels. Sure that would make it a trike but, it has a forth wheel that bisects the front of the rear wheels. It is that metal disc with a black rim in the middle of the bike. It sticks out the bottom, further than the other wheels so it is more like the old SSP cars. One large free spinning wheel to move the car, 4 plastic non functioning ones to keep it from wrecking.

The black piece appears (looks like an exhaust pipe kinda) to be connected to the drive wheel but that's just a guess on my part.

    1. Great insights Lance! Yes, the black pipe appears to be part of the drive.
