This toy reminds me: there was a style of toy back in the day which featured several units or cars strung together to make one unwieldy unit. The two I can recall off the top of my head are 1/ a family of ducks, Mamma duck tugging along several of her ducklings, and 2/ various versions of a tin toy train, with the locomotive and cars all permanently connected. I had one of these trains a million years ago, and loved it to pieces....
