ITS MAGICALLY ACTIVATED BY THE DOLL'S HAND!

Toy designers get carried away when they introduce space into the mix. Take this Mattel Buffatron, a sort of Barbarella-style boudoir for Barbie!

There's a beauty buffer and space-age bed!

What on earth - or space - does the the top line mean?

"Pink fur really turns to buff and shine spectral"

Just don't let Action Man, GI Joe or Big Jim anywhere near!

Can you beat this for wackiness?

I just looked this series up. Apparently, they date from the late 1980s. Mattel Spectra was a doll line made using Barbie moulds, but they had metallic, chromed bodies with a normal doll head, and colourful hair. Hence the need to buff their metallic bodies. Were they meant to be robots ?
One of the boxes I found says Spectra - Outer Space Star ! Leader of the Shimmerons ! The back of the box says there are five gleaming, beaming teenage friends (four female, one male) from the planet Shimmeron. Plus a fluffy robot dog. They have decided to visit Earth, and try our Hot Dogs and shopping malls.

    Spark Dog (white)

The only thing I can say is Good Grief.

  2. This thing looks as if it was inspired by the Orgasmatron from 'Barbarella' and is surely, therefore, on the ragged edge of legality !
