There's a peculiar roar that occurs in some fantasies.
Its a monster's roar, which is slightly trombone-like.

Other fave roars include the beasts in the Lost World from 1960 and the similar monsters in Journey to the Centre of the Earth 1959.

Hmm, I can't tell any longer, but I wonder if there's a lion's roar in their somewhere. You're edging closer to that rabbit hole of movie sound effects. Before you know it, you'll be obsessed with Cockatoo screeches, Irwin Allen beeps and the Wilheim scream!
