VANGELIS RIP

I heard on the radio the sad news that Vangelis passed away this week.

When I was a young man I was aware of Vangelis but I can't say I knew his music well, other than Chariots of Fire.

So I was amazed to find out that he'd composed the soundscape for Blade Runner. Yes, tears in the rain and all that great noise and sound.

There was an interview on the radio with the composer of the later Blade Runner [2049?], who had met Vangelis at his home.

He explained that the original and full Vangelis soundtrack was never released but Vangelis played him everything. He was gobsmacked.

Is the released Blade Runner soundtrack something that you have? How was it released at the time, LP? 

Rest in Peace Vangelis.

    Sad news...always a fan of his work and still listen to some of his collaborative work as Jon & Vangelis (Friends of Mr. Cairo, etc.).
    Agree his Bladerunner work set the mood for both films perfectly.

      Ah yes, I love Jon Anderson's voice too Charles. Yes was one of my favourite bands as a teenager.

    I had the original New American Orchestra CD (which was a cover version) but some of the original score surfaced on Vangelis Themes, More came with his supposed Blade Runner CD but it still wasn't complete and had additional material not composed for the film.
    Finally I found an MP3 bootleg of the original score, but that was a journey decades in the making!

      Wow, it sounds like its a rocky road trying to hear everything Vangelis made for BR Looey. Harder than tracking a replicant! Sounds like you've done it though! I imagine a box set is on its way now Vangelis has passed.

    I have the Blade Runner CD.I like to play it while sitting in my backyard during late August evenings, watching fireflies.Been doing that for over 20 years.Very soothing.

    I ripped the Vangelis soundtrack from a youtube video. Between that and Hans Zimmers 2049 score, its a few hours well spent. Ive got three Vangelis lps too and 'Memories of Green' (when Deckard is at the piano in reverie) appears on 'See You Later'. Bill

    You might also want to listen to Patrick O’Hearn’s INDIGO. A good instrumental album.
