OPEN THE POD BAY DOOR, HAL!

I'm currently watching 2001: A Space Odyssey for the umpteenth time...!

  1. Never too many Scoop, never too many. I wonder what happened to those 17 minutes of cut footage found in a Kansas Salt Mine back in 2010. Been waiting for the "Original Director's Cut" ever since!

    1. Oh yes, I remember hearing about that, Arto. I'm thinking some of it may have been the unused footage showing life on Space Station 5.

    2. I was under the impression that the footage included the outtakes / trimmings Kubrick made after the premiere, which ran longer than the theatrical version

  2. Follow it up with 2010 - not nearly as good, but interesting nonetheless

Ahhh, the big screen experience -in your own living room!
You'll have to invite the neighbours over, just to sit behind you and rustle chip packets!

  4. What a movie! Keir Dullea was a great actor Scoop. Very intense with a great voice. He stars in another old film I love, Black Christmas along with Romeo and Juliet star Olivia Hussey. Its often cited as an inspiration for the slasher sub-genre that followed.

  5. One of my absolute favorite films. When I was in my early teens I was fortunate enough to watch it on the big screen when it was re-released, which made quite the impression.

Fun fact: some computer scientists at MIT released a book titled "HAL's Legacy" which not only discusses the impact the movie had on them but the breakthroughs in computing needed to make the HAL 9000 a reality.
