SUPER NEWS COPTER

I like this Japanese Super News Copter vintage toy I saw on auction. Despite being battered I love the box art so I saved the pics.

I have something similar called the Super Copter by old American firm Tarheel of Tarboro.

This toy can't decide if its a News Copter or a Police one.

The rotors are tipped with coloured lights.

The Japanese maker's mark is SH in a kite.

News crews don't often get a look-in when it comes to toys so this is a welcome entry for them.

Have you got any copters or news crew toys?

That is a weird toy. The fuselage resembles the Sikorsky S-55 (known as the Whirlwind in Britain). This had the engine in the nose, with opening clamshell doors, but on the toy it has been replaced by a television camera, with a battery of three rotating lenses for close, medium, and long shots. However, the engine, tail boom, and landing skids look like those on an early-model Bell UH-1 Iroquois or Huey. This toy came in several colours, I have seen photos of it in blue, green, and orange.
There have been several die-cast News van models, with a TV camera mounted on the roof. In 1959, when television was still new and exciting, Dinky released several BBC vehicles, followed in the early 1960s by ABC versions. There was also a Pathe News camera car.

    2. I still have my Corgi Samuelsons Film Crew van in metallic blue and white. Sadly the camera man on his platform is nowhere to be found.
