Here is another odd item for your collection of oddities. A short You Tube history of the Space Hopper. This first appeared in the 1960s in Italy, and spread around the world under a number of different names. I never had one, but I do remember seeing ads for them on TV, I suppose in the 1970s. What was the casualty rate among riders ?

I adored my Space Hopper - I had an orange one with horns and the stupid rabbit face. The only casualty was when I eventually hopped onto a piece of broken plastic and slashed it open. I was gutted. Then I cut off the horns and used them as crab claws on my forefinger and thumb!
ReplyDeleteI had one too, a huge bouncy thing. I don't remember a pogo stick in my childhood but I do recall the hopper!
