As Paul pointed out below, several Thames shows aired abroad, also in Finland in the Seventies and early Eighties.
It always struck me as odd that first you had this bombastic intro which seemed to signify British "officialness" - and what followed were shows like the Kenny Everett Video Show and the Benny Hill show.
Not just UK. This intro played at the start of various imported British shows, just can not remember which ones. There was also Anglia (I hope I have that right - a knight on horseback ?), and London Weekend Television. Probably others that I do not recall, but would if I saw them again.
Ooh that takes me back. Loads of sitcoms - Man about the House, George and Mildred. Kids shows - The Tomorrow People. But for some reason the main one that comes to mind is the Benny Hill show!
At least 50% of the memories inside my head ! (haha) Someone please be kind enough to upload the LWT equivalent and we've a matching pair down memory lane
Strangely, "Rainbow" !
ReplyDeleteThe Kenny Everett Video Show. "It's all done in the best possible taste!"

Yep, same here. Kenny Everett.

ReplyDeleteThunderbirds, the reflection of Tower bridge also helped with this, it's a visceral memory for me indelibly printed in my nerd-bank!!
ReplyDeleteA local TV station used to put The Benny Hill show on at 11:30 P.M. in the 70s here. That always preceded the show.
ReplyDeleteHow incredible Bri. You even saw it in America!
ReplyDeleteBenny Hill
ReplyDeleteThe rather smutty Benny Hill Show from Thames was broadcast in the USA. Sadly the funnier innuendo of the BBC shows never made it to the USA.

ReplyDeleteFenton
George & mildred :)
ReplyDeleteMemory lane!
ReplyDeleteOnly recall seeing that just before dangermouse here in the states.
ReplyDeleteDangermouse! Was his sidekick called Penfold? I remember Motormouse and Autocat. Yes, I'm that old!
ReplyDeleteIndeed his sidekick was Penfold! Your old brain recalled the fact quite adeptly! ;)
ReplyDeleteMotormouse and Autocat was from Hanna Barbera but I never really watched that particular show.
