MYSTERY MODEL SPACE PLANE

There's a thread on the wonderful Alphadrome site that discusses this mystery model space plane.

I think the thread's inconclusive as to what it is. Its an intriguing looking thing for sure so I thought I'd ask Moonbase readers what you think it is?

Any ideas?

  1. Dont know, my first thought was that it looked like a German Natter Rocket Interceptor. Its a lovely thing, seems to be missing drop tanks off the wing tips too.

    1. See what you mean Wote. For me those 2 rear missiles remind me of those here on the small Mole toy from this range http://home.s00.itscom.net/nekonii/uma/tank/20130019.jpg

  2. Its suggested onnthat thread that its a japanese kit, so could well be. The ejectable cockpit fits with the Natters style of flight, if the front cannons dont get the enemy fighter, ram it and eject before impact!

  3. I was scoping old model kits and I came across this. Could this be the inspiration for your Super Deformed rocketship?

What about the French Fouga Magister jet trainer ? Twin engines, butterfly tail, and wingtip fuel tanks. Nothing else matches though. Or perhaps some weird late WW2 German design that never left the drawing board ?

  5. This plane(?) has in fact some similarities with the German WWII design Messerschmitt Me328.
    Kind regards

  6. That beautiful ship is the 1966 Midori model Orbital Ship Super Arrow, released in the U.S. and Canada by Paramount Hobbies. One of my first Japanese model kits, and one of my favorites. I sent Moonbase Central pix of the completed model a few years ago, I can send again if you would like. Believe me, it looks pretty spiffy when painted up!

    1. This is the second time the guys at Alphadrome have been confounded by a mystery toy, which turned out to be a Japanese model kit. The first one was the OTAKI Space Patrol Car Mahha. This is why toy collectors and model collectors should work together IMHO!!!
