BARTER BOOKS

The famous Barter Books second hand book store in Alnwick, Northumberland.

Its an old railway station and its huge. A couple of shots to give you a flavour. The website describes how they found a lost room too, which became the buffet!

Also a video of the toy train sets tootling around the ceiling of the old station store.

Do you have a bookshop you like?

Wow, what a great place. Looks massive. I am sure I could find something of interest in there.

    1. It is big Paul. You can also part exchange up to ten of your own books and get a credit note towards the shop's stock you want. A clever idea and hence the name Barter. It has to be said they do carry some books which cost hundreds of pounds.

  3. NYC has The Strand Bookstore for new and used books, but alas it has no trains.

    1. I visited the Strand in 2001 Terran and bought several toy refernce books, which I still have. It wasn't far from the WTC so I'm pretty sure that branch no longer exists. Where is it now?

    2. You went to the branch off Wall Street downtown. The original store is on Broadway around 10th Street. near NY's Forbidden Planet, the UK comic store.

Sydney has a very nice outlet of the Japanese Kinokuniya chain. And not just Japanese language books, magazines, manga and anime titles. It also features English language Art, Architecture, Graphics, Hobby and general interest titles. It has an impressive Film section and the biggest Comics and Graphic Novel department complete with figures and collectables. It even has writing equipment, a coffee shop and art gallery, so all the good things in one amazing floorspace.
