I used to love the Smash TV ad with the laughing robots. Well nestling in the gorgeous pile of figures and toys on Vectis are two Smash bots. One is a plastic toy and one is a bendy! What else would you like readers?
I still have a leaflet by which you could send away for a Bendy Smash Martian for around 30p. It came in a poly bag, and Marty was a light grey colour. The toy was later available in shops and was a darker grey, and I think the rubber was slightly better quality. I still have the one I bought from a shop, as well as the Marx wind-up version which I got years after the fact. I've also got two little Martian pencil toppers to complete my collection. As to whether there was any further merchandise I couldn't say.
Great stuff Kid. You have them both. Great memories. Not sure I had either but I remember the TV ad as if it was yesterday. It was the echoey laughing that really stuck in my mind. As for Smash itself I recall it had a sort of powdery taste, which butter made edible!
A box to have a nice delve into. I'll grab them 2 NASA astronauts, the 2 swoppit type figures next to them and the 2 silver/grey ones a bit lower down. Theres alot of interesting stuff in that box. E.T in his spaceship(s) and all those robot figures might need to come my way aswell. My fingers are getting all itchy to rake through it all!
