It looks like Victor Bergman made it from dead body parts and then zapped it with lightning (probably from Nuclear Waste Disposal area 2), to bring it to life. He shouldn't have bothered.
And I thought the era of "off model" toy making had ended! I does have a certain wonky charm unseen in today's toys - unless they are unlicensed bootlegs, and those usually don't have charm either!
Off model Bobbleheads are everywhere in the UK, (if you count those as off model) Lewis.I can't say I like them myself. I'm afraid I don't really see the charm of them, just like this odd looking 1999 astronaut, but it has to be said a lot of folk do seem to like them.
Those Bobbleheads, I think they're called Funko Pops, are dreadful. They're nothing like the characters and things they're meant to be and so don't appeal to me at all. Who wants they're favourite figures in the style of the old Homepride man? What's worse is that they're all over formerly decent Sci Fi and comic shops, sometimes taking up all the merchandise areas and as much as half of the shop space ! There are some Forbidden Planets I won't even go in because they just seem to be full of the damn things!
You're absolutely right, Mish, they look terrible. I've seen them filling shelves in quite a few comic shops. I don't who's buying them, I can only assume they appeal to a younger generation who like their apparent novelty appeal.

DeleteLaura Legends loves Funko Pops. I can not understand the appeal, did not realise they were bobble heads, as I have never looked at them closely.
ReplyDeleteHa! This toy probably mimics Martin Landau's wooden acting quite well!
ReplyDeleteHa,ha! Naughty Zigg, the man was an Oscar winner!
