Hi Woodsy.
Well, snow is falling ,and I really enjoy building model kits while watching the drifts pile up outside. Here's Rodan, a Polar Lights/Playing Mantis re-issue of the original Aurora kit.
This is one that I always admired as a kid, but never tried. For some reason the box art and instructions suggested painting Rodan green.
I thought this was interesting, but couldn't bring myself to do it. Rodan has always been a fiery red creature in my eyes.
The finished model is a welcome addition at Monster Base because Rodan seems to be an under-collected character here.

Quite how he was able to use those tiny wing claws to sculpt 'The Thinker', I'll never know !
ReplyDeleteha ha, Rodan obviously got Godzilla to carve it with his heat ray!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! A beautiful build of a classic monster model! And isn't it funny you mentioned how a snowy day brings out the model builder in you - it does the same for me! Maybe it has something to do with during our childhood, getting a "snow day" off from school was an excuse to do something fun with your extra time - which to me was dashing down to the basement and working on a model kit. A ritual I continue to this day...
ReplyDeleteand a lovely ritual it is Zigg!
DeleteThank You!As I get closer to retirement age, I also have begun Summertime model building at the backyard patio, poolside. The weather here is warming up quickly, but I'm still in model making mode.I think the Mighty Kogar kit by Moebius is next.I acknowledge from another comment that you call the creature by his Japanese name Radon.
ReplyDeleteI don't know Kogar but it does sound mighty!
DeleteKogar is the name of Bob Burns' gorilla costume.
Deleteof course! and I even have his book, the Basement! Doh!
DeleteAnd you are but a few flaps of Rodan's vast wings apart Zigg and Brian!
