WILL'S OSBORNE SPACEX AND SPACE TOYS 1

This is the first of a series of pictures courtesy of collector and toy shop owner Will Osborne. I have known Will since the late 1990's when I was researching Project SWORD and Spacex toys. Will was a font of information when I started out and continues to be. I'm sure you will enjoy his fabulous pictures and toys.

Of this first set, Will says:

Hi Woodsy. Another Ideal robot [sort of] . The Dekkertoys moonscape with some Spacex for scale and the Spacex Moonbase Set with its lunar plan. Enjoy.

I'm perplexed by the choice of models/ toys on the lunar play-set, so I realise Dekker probably didn't produce or license most of these, I recognize the Eagle interceptor and the Buck Rogers figures on the right, is that a playmobil space shuttle in the middle but who are the two on the left? It's a Star Wars cape on the fella furthest left but no idea what he is, any one have an idea?- MJ

  2. Ive got the Dekkertoys Moonscapes and they have just used a random selection of contemporary toys to decorate the box! So you have the Airfix Hawk kit, Mego Black Hole and Buck Rogers figures and a small Hasegawa Egg Shuttle kit - all from the eighties. Dekkertoys also made a space helmet and a boxed space set with copies of the Apollo Moon Exploring toys in, along with a really naff playmat and a handful of astronauts. Moonscapes are actually really nice

    1. You wont, its not on the blog. I haven’t found any online reference to it, but I still have some of the parts. It would have been called something really generic like ‘Space Mission Playset’ - theres no link to the original branding. Dekkertoys are part of the Cowan de Groot network aka Codeg. A dutch wholesaler who probably picked up the defunct licence for the toys in the 80’s and made some cheap copies. The quality was akin to the cake topper variations you see on Etsy.

    1. Never had one Zigg but have read lots about it. A really cool Ideal design combining see-through technology with neat robotic looks. What was it like to play with? Did a bell ring?
