S.W.O.R.D. BOOSTER ROCKET

A photo reminder of one of the most popular Project SWORD toys: The Booster Rocket. On the Blog, we've talked about the Booster Rocket many times, and have since concluded it's design inspiration comes from a 1960's Mission to Mars proposal, and is based on illustrations by artist, Ed Valigursky (1926-2009). The box art by ,an as yet unidentified artist is also based on one of Valigursky's paintings. My Booster Rocket launch pad is based on what looks like to be art by the late Malcolm Stokes (1935 - 2008) in TV21. The Booster Rocket Project SWORD Annual feature art which, although unsigned could be by Andy Harrison, who also supplied artwork for the TV21 'Saturn Probe' aricles, and cover art for Joe 90 (Top Secret) comic.

  1. Love those dioramas. The Booster Rocket was one of the only 2 Sword toys I had as a kid (Probe Force 3 being the other), I loved it. Still like the one I've got too!

    1. Thanks Kev. Like you, I didn't have many SWORD toys as a kit. I had all the Scout Force ships, Probe Force 3, the Dyna-soar, and the MoonRanger. I certainly enjoyed playing with them at the time, along with the slightly later SpaceX pocket money toys.
