Thats No Moon

The xmas sweet selection brought some interesting packaging this year, as shown by a giant plastic Ferrero Roche ball and a clear plastic cone to hold the sweets. The ball will make a handy background prop for a space photo!

  1. That takes me right back to when I was a kid!
I used to collect clear plastic domes and shapes to make into models. I had those transparent rubber aliens with the suckers on their feet and I'd use half a clear gum ball prize shell to make space helmets for them. I found a clear yellow Christmas star ornament that when tilted on it's side, looked a bit like a LEM or the Space Pod from Lost in Space. I left two of the facets clear and painted the ones beneath matte black to make windows. The rest of the shape was covered with crumpled aluminium foil for thermal protection!
To this very day, I hungrily eye Ferrero Roche packages for possible model making uses! I haven't finished them yet, but I have several of the rectangular boxes which will become the rear windows of my tin toy model of Captain Scarlet's Patrol car!

I totally agree. Sometimes the packaging is better, and more useful, than the contents. This Christmas I bought a couple of small boxes of Turkish Delights, actually made in Turkey. Alas, not that great, but the hexagonal boxes should make nice little display stands for a model. Clear plastic packaging is always useful, and Ferrero Roche are tops in this field.

  3. This reminds me of a U.F.O. episode. SHADO had built a spy satellite to follow an alien spaceship back to its home world. But the camera settings were sabotaged so they wouldn't be able to gage what they were looking at. One of the items used to illustrate it was an orange which in close up looked like a planet surface

  5. Yep, the ambassador has spoiled us! Ferrero always have great packaging and I quite like the chocolates too - the eggs are horrendous, but the little asteroid like chocs are great!

  6. Those gold cups in the clear cone look like hibernation bays for inter-stellar voyages Nostromo-style or maybe even the bio-pods humans were stored in in the Matrix! What an amazing confection container! I've often wondered if the large plastic spahere that Rerroro issue is the same size as the major Matt Mason sphere on his Space Bubble, which I don't have so I can't compare them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ComzuZfkWDY
Oddly enough, have you noticed how Lindt chocolate balls are exact mini copies of the Death Star, complete with its side dimple!
