REMEMBERING FANDERSON 2019: THE ART DISPLAY
One of the most popular displays at Supercelebration was the art display which included many examples I'd not seen before, and kindly displayed by their respective owners. There was a lot of original pages from TV21, Lady Penelope, Joe 90 (Top Secret), Solo and Countdown. Some original Space:1999 art from Look -In magazine too.
I found the original art from TV21 in particular really nostalgic as I, like many my age looked forward to reading the comic every week during the mid to late sixties, and getting the annuals every Christmas.
This is an amazing collection, thanks for sharing! Its easy to forget about the TV21 comic strips, with the Supermarionation programs themselves making such an impression, but when you see all of these great art panels together, and realize how much talent went into them, you realize this, too, is another lost art. And largely lost on the youngsters who originally perused them...
ReplyDeleteIt was a superb display, Ziggurat. I can just about still remember buying TV21 when it first appeared in January 1965.

You mentioned Look-in art as well and I think I saw a page of Mike Noble's Kung Fu strip in a previous photo - did you by any chance take a close up of any of them as well? Thanks again!!!

DeleteBrilliant mate - many thanks !!!!Mike N once told me he reckoned 25% of his art was covered up by headers and lettering patches so it's great to see some lost bits.
