EDAI GRIP UFO STRAKERS CAR

Hey Woodsy

Happy 2020...I hope all is as well as it can be during the slow apocalypse.

I recently came across the extremely hard-to-find Eidai Straker's
key-wind car. No packaging, but hard to track down in any shape or
form.

Woodsy asks: Anyone else got one or something similar?

  1. Not sure about this toy.
I'm no petrol head, but isn't this a quite different car ?

  2. Just checked online.
This looks more like Colonel Foster's car to me.

  4. It says Cmdr Straker on it. Tried to look on this Edai checklist. Can you believe its one of the few toys without a picture! http://www.toyboxdx.com/datafiles/data/eidai/eidaigrip_textonly.htm

  5. No need.
Just compare it to Dinky's 'Ed Straker's car', which is pretty accurate, and you'll see it's quite different.

  6. There was one on yahoo.co.jp 9 weeks ago according to a GA toys FB page. I tried to look at it but no pic comes up on the link, and as the site is Japanese I dont have a clue what to click on Part of the txt description does say eidai strakers car.

    1. It is a very elusive die-cast Timmy. As slippery as a Natterjack toad!

  7. Let everyone and the aliens know this is Comdr Straker's car by putting a big label on the sides eh? And SHADO is supposed to be a secret organisation :)

The Comdr Straker label on the sides is actually very discreet compared to the Saint stick figure on the Corgi Saint's Volvo and Jaguar XJS, the 007 and gun logo on the nose of the Corgi James Bond Lotus Esprit from The Spy Who Loved Me, or the giant UNCLE logo on the nose of the Corgi Thrush-buster Oldsmobile.
The Edai model looks nothing like the Dinky, or the car in photos, apart from a generally futuristic look. There is no mention of UFO or Gerry Anderson on the base, so perhaps they just put the Comdr Straker markings on the side of an existing toy car, and called it a UFO model, to increase sales ? Just a guess on my part.
