SIXTEEN 12 'WAR GAMES' EAGLE DELUXE SET PROTOTYPE PHOTOS

Some photos I took of the Sixteen 12 Collectables prototype model of the Hawk Mk IX, and the battle damaged Eagle.

Although the Hawk Mk IX only appeared in one Space: 1999 episode, War Games, and proceeded to attack and attempt to completely destroy Moonbase Alpha, it’s still a very popular guest ship with fans.

Special effects director, Brian Johnson came up with the initial design, and  models built by model-maker Martin Bower. When completed the Hawk was white, however it was decided at the studio that the colour of the model was too much like the Eagle so sections of it were painted orange by art director, Cyril Forster to distinguish both models on screen.

Sixteen 12, along with their regular War Games ‘Episode’ release have also announced that they plan to do a separate ‘War Games’ Special Edition white Hawk.

For the filming prop, three different scales were built, 31” (790 mm), 16” (410 mm), and 5” (130 mm)

The Sixteen 12 prototype model is in scale with the 12” (300 mm) Eagles, and is around 8” (200 mm).

The set will come with a battle damaged Eagle with laser blast markings. It will have the familiar hand-turned and hand finished aluminium engine bells, removable pod, and an in-flight display stand.

The Hawk Mk IX will also have an in-flight display stand.

This is limited edition set of 1500.

It is scheduled for release January, 2021, and will retail from Sixteen 12 for £229.99.

For anyone interested, deposits and early bird booking opens 18th September 2020 on the Sixteen 12 website.https://www.sixteen12.com/shop/space-1999-this-episode-this-episode-wargames/

  1. Amazing shots Scoop! I can't see a professional doing any better nowadays with your advanced skill. Sixteen 12 are doing a great job in difficult times creating limited edition runs. It must require lots of development to get them how they want, which all costs money. Your photo galleries must be a big help to this small company. I imagine this edition will be snapped up too.

    1. Thanks Woodsy. Yeah, they work hard at producing the goods. I think it really helps that Steve, the MD of 16/12 is a big fan of all the old classic series, too.:)
