I have Parsley's Car, although I do not remember the TV series, and I think I would remember a green lion driving a vintage car. Picked it up a few years ago at a fair, rather expensive, but boxed.
The car is in The Adventures of Parsley, as opposed to The Herbs. I think this toy is a reasonable replica of it. What is less clear is what happens between the two shows to bestow upon Parsley the ability to speak and to drive!
Thanks, I did not realise there were two different shows. I do not think I saw either of them. Have sent photos of this model to Woodsy. Dinky just used their existing model of the Bull-nose Morris car, and added a plastic figure of Parsley behind the steering wheel.
Dinky and Corgi did that a lot, repurposing existing vehicles for kids shows. See the Dinky Paramoke is used for a Prisoner version and later for Tiny the Giraffe.
In the Candy Andy comics the mini's registration was CANDY 1. Roger Perry of Century 21 Publishing arranged the shoots using the mini and actually drove around in it before being told to give it up as a gift for someone important. I read this on the Roger Perry interviews on Bear Alley blog. Somewhere on Moonbase are the links.
Talking about repurposing cars, Corgi did this as well. They simply added a Simon Templar figure and the Saint symbol to their existing model of the Volvo P1800, and adapted the moulds of the DB4 to make the DB5, though the rear lights remained those of the DB4. (They released an actual DB5 a couple of years later. In fact, the main car in Goldfinger wasn't an actual DB5 - it was the prototype - a DB4 mark 5 Vantage.
As Kid says The Bond DB5 was a prototype and the same car in its original dark red colour and numberplate BMT 216A, did turn up in the Saint episode The Noble Sportsman prior to it's Goldfinger appearance.

ReplyDeleteI thought Parsley could always speak? Or is the narrator in The Herbs just vocalising his thoughts?
DeleteI think it's the latter, certainly in the Herbs. He roars sometimes.
