Tea Time on the Moon

I have just received one of the most unusual pieces of space ephemera from a very good friend, who purchased it originally in Cambridge in 1969. A commemorative tea towel, screen printed with date and details and images of the three famous faces, presumably taken from the wealth of promotional material put out by NASA at the time. Each little drawing shows Armstrong's signature schoolboy grin, Aldrin's excited gaze and Collin's Mona Lisa like wry smile. Set off in somewhat garish colour, it is a little piece of history from an exciting and landmark time. Shall we ever see its like again, I wonder ?

  1. Tea towels were and are still a popular way of celebrating national and international events. The Royals spring to mind as often featuring on tea towels. But this Apollo one you were given is a beauty Wote. I've never seen it before but I can well imagine many household items being sold like this with the famous trio gracing them. I wonder if there were similar cups? I have a book here called Collecting the Space Race. I'll have to check for tea towels.
